One of the best shot blockers in WVU history will dip his toes into the NBA Draft process to see how warm the water is.
Sagaba Konate will put his name in for the NBA Draft but not hire an agent. That means he will be eligible to return to the Mountaineers should he withdraw his name by June 5.
The announcement was made via a release from the University.
“Sags will go through the NBA Draft procedures in a systematic and professional manner by exploring the situation and leaving open his option to return,” Huggins said in the release.
Sags averaged 3.2 blocks per game during his sophomore season. His offensive game also showed improvement as the year wore on, showing greater range on his jump shot. He finished the season averaging 10.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
He’s undersized at 6’8″ to play center and would be a small power forward at the NBA level. Playing in the same league as Texas’ Mo Bamba and Kansas’ Udoka Azubuike will give NBA scouts and coaches good film to evaluate how he matched up against pro-caliber taller players down low.
Konate will have two years of eligibility remaining should he decide to return.
It’s possible that both Konate and Jevon Carter get drafted this summer. The last time that happened was in 2010 when Da’Sean Butler and Devin Ebanks were drafted.
