Daryl Worley signs with the Raider

Daryl Worley was a free-agent for a week before signing with a new team.

Two Sundays ago, Worley found himself arrested and without a job in the span of twelve hours. Police found him passed out in the early morning hours in a car blocking a street near the Philadelphia Eagles practice facility. He was subsequently Tased, arrested, charged, posted bail, and released by his new/old team. The Eagles had just acquired Worley via a trade from Carolina in March.

He signed with the Oakland Raiders on Monday, joining fellow Mountaineers Bruce Irvin and Karl Joseph. Corner was seen as a definite position of need for the Raiders to target in this week’s NFL Draft, and Worley started at that position for two seasons with the Panthers.

However, he is facing several charges, including driving under the influence as well weapons and disorderly conduct charges.

Bears working to boost Kevin White’s confidence

Three years and three season-ending injuries can get into one’s head. It can bring you down and make you question everything about yourself and your career. That is where Kevin White is going into his fourth season in the NFL.

Now that he is healthy, new Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy wants to restore White’s confidence. After three days of minicamp, it appears to be working. By all reports, White looks strong, fast, and crisp.

“He’s a kid [whose] confidence hasn’t been where it needs to be,” Nagy said Wednesday. “But what I can tell you is that from what I’ve seen so far, if I was somebody that was coming into this building and facility that didn’t know anything about him, you’d never in a million years know it from what we’ve seen recently.”

This offseason, the Bears hit the reset button, firing head coach John Fox and hiring Matt Nagy to replace him. A new receivers coach was also brought on board. Installing a new offense will, in effect, allows White to start over as well.

“I would think it would, that it would help him,” Nagy said. “If any of us were in that situation, and you have a fresh start — forget about the whys of what happened. Forget about that. That doesn’t matter. What matters is about right now.

“He’s young. He has a big ceiling. Now we can try to do it as much as we can as coaches and try to pull it out of him, but he’s got to work hard. He’s got to put time in the playbook. He’s got to put in the extra work after practice when he can. And then when the game comes, he’s got to make plays. When you do that, his confidence will slowly get better and better.”

Kyzir White visits with San Francisco before NFL Draft

Kyzir White’s pre-NFL Draft tour made a stop in Santa Clara on Monday for a visit with the 49ers.

White is an intriguing prospect to NFL teams due to the possibility of playing two different positions at the next level. He played a hybrid safety/linebacker role at WVU, and with his size at 6-foot-2, 218 pounds, he could fill either role depending on fit. He would likely play safety if drafted by the 49ers due to their defensive scheme.

We are one just over one week away from the 2018 NFL Draft, and White currently projects as a second to third round pick.

He has also met with the Steelers and Cowboys.

Pat White to join Ryan Stanchek on the Alcorn State coaching staff

Once upon a time, Pat White used his legs and arm to help propel the Mountaineers to national prominence. Ryan Stanchek helped protect and pave the way for some of White’s ground escapes. Now, Stanchek will lead the way again for White, although in a much different dynamic.

Stanchek is going into his fifth season as a member of the Alcorn State Braves coaching staff and was promoted to offensive coordinator on Monday. He previously served as the run game coordinator, where the Braves ranked first nationally at the FCS level in 2016.

The school is expected to announce the hiring of Pat White as the team’s offensive coordinator this week, per WJTV 12.

It will be White’s first coaching job. He previously played in the NFL with Miami and Washington and in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos.

If Stanchek and White can capture the same magic they used in their time together in Morgantown, the SWAC Conference should be ready for records to fall.
