What Are Your Predictions For the Mountaineers Homecoming Game Against Bowling Green?

Coming off a loss last week at home against LSU, the Mountaineers face Bowling Green in today's Homecoming matchup at 3:30. WVU is going to honor former head coach Don Nehlen today who's Alma Mater and first coaching job just happened to be Bowling Green. They have brought back many former quarterbacks for the game including Pat White, Jeff Hostetler, Ed Pastilong, Rasheed Marshall, Major Harris, and more. Da'Sean Butler will be the Grand Marshall of the homecoming parade.
WVU's offense racked up over 500 yards of total offense against LSU's Top 10 defense last week. Geno Smith broke school records for passing yards, attempts, and completions. The combination of turnovers and -sloppy special teams play are ultimately what doomed the Mountaineers in the 47-21 loss.
Geno Smith is on pace to shatter all Mountaineer passing records for a single season. Thus far through 4 games, Smith has thrown for over 1,400 yards with an average of 368 yards per game. He has thrown 9 touchdowns against 3 interceptions. Tavon Austin has 31 receptions for 423 yards. Stedman Bailey has 23 for 344.
On the defensive side, after recording 13.5 sacks last season, Bruce Irvin only has 1 this season as he has transitioned to playing on most downs instead of mainly on 3rd downs where he was utilized last season. Tony Caridi watched last week's Bowling Green game where they played Miami (Oh), and he thinks that the over under on Mountaineer sacks in this game is 5. Is this the game that Bruce Irvin breaks out?
For the season, Bowling Green has the same record as WVU at 3-1 with their lone loss coming to Wyoming. The Falcons rank 22nd in total defense giving up 294 yards a game. West Virginia is favored in this game by 21 points. WVU ranks 14th in total offense (4th in passing) coming into the game while Bowling Green is 12th.
With that said, what are your predictions for today's game? I want to know 5 things:
  1. What will the final score be? Will WVU cover the spread?
  2. How many yards will Geno Smith throw for?
  3. How many sacks will Bruce Irvin have?
  4. Will WVU have it's first 100-yard rusher on the season?
  5. Can Tavon Austin have another 100-yards receiving game?
Please feel free to leave your predictions below, and ask your friends to join in on the conversation.

  1. I think Geno will throw below 500 as Holgorsen will try to establish Garrison at RB in the game in preparation for Big East play next week.
    Irvin will have 2 sacks.
Tavon will have over 100 yards.
I think Bowling Green will put up enough points to cover the spread. WVU 41-24.
